Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announce the death of Mr. Jerry Harris Fagler, age 83, of Dellwood, GA, Thursday, May 28, 2020, at his residence.

Graveside service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Swainsboro City Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jim Harrell.

A memorial service will be conducted at Calvary United Methodist Church in Swainsboro, GA, at a later date.

Pallbearers are Tim Garrett, Joey Hood, John Torpy Jr., Lyn Nasworthy, Jeff Overstreet, and Darrell Williams..

Honorary Pallbearers are Sydney Lanier, Marc Curry, Chris Thompson, Bobby Mason, Jimmy Mason, Tim Mason, Ricky Henry, Russell Moore, Bob Williamson, past and present members of the Ohoopee River Soil and Water Conservation District, Sonya Merrion, Dr. James Ray and Mikey Edenfield.

Mr. Fagler was born October 23, 1936 in Dates, near Dellwood, GA, to Elmo H. and Effie Flanders Fagler. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church of Swainsboro. He was also a member of Swainsboro Jaycees, Emanuel County Agribusiness Council, Emanuel County Farm Bureau and a lifetime member of Emanuel County Young Farmers. He served as District Supervisor of Ohoopee River Soil and Water Conservation District and was chairman of the Emanuel County Jail Authority. In 2010, Emanuel County Agribusiness Council awarded his family Farm Family of the Year and he was also named Man of the Year in Soil and Water Conservation.

A lifelong farmer, Mr. Fagler managed James B. Mason Oil Company, formerly L.R. Lindsey Oil Company, for many years, and was an Emanuel County Sheriff’s Deputy under Sheriff James B. Mason. While working a full-time job, he farmed his family land and in 1993 became a fulltime farmer and farmed until his death. He loved the smell of freshly plowed dirt and a shower of rain, the satisfaction of reaping the crops he sowed and the sight of cattle grazing his pastures. He mentored many young people in the farming profession, including his sons and grandchildren, teaching them the love of the family farm. He was a devoted father and grandfather and a loving husband.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant sister; three brothers, W.A. “Pete”Fagler Sr., Johnny Elmo Fagler, and an infant brother; and a grandchild, Randy Farrow.

His wife of 63 years, Ruby Lamb Fagler of Dellwood, GA

Two sons and spouses: Stuart and Donna Fagler of Dellwood, GA and Mitchell and Stephanie Fagler of Swainsboro, GA

One sister: Sue Fagler Brammar of Statesboro, GA

Grandchildren: Carmen and Tift Tanner of Wrightsville, GA, Amber and Tony Stapleton of Metter, GA,  Luke Fagler and Jacob Fagler of Swainsboro, GA, and Nikki and Clay Hayslip of Summertown, GA

Great-grandchildren: Slate Stapleton, Baylor Tanner, Brock Farrow, Laney Hayslip, Jalen Farrow, and Kourtney Hayslip

One brother-in-law: Herschel Tommy “H.T.” and Margaret Lamb

One sister-in-law: Cora Mae “Cricket” Coursey

His Caregivers: Willie Ruth Gillis, Marie Ward, Lessie Johnson, and Elaine Cummings
