Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. William Ray Thompson Sr, age 92 of Swainsboro, GA on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home in Augusta, GA.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the Swainsboro First United Methodist Church with Rev. Louis Pearce officiating assisted by Rev. David Unkles.
Entombment will follow in the Eastbrook Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Swainsboro First United Methodist Church from 12:30 till time of service.
Pallbearers are Richard Reddish, Mark Smith, Matt Smith, Donny Wilson, Craig Wilson, Dev Watson and Mickey Flanders.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Phil Thompson, Jim & Cherry Curry, Tim & Judy Garrett, Billy & Hilda Walden, Carolyn Moore and Dr. Kemp Jones.
Mr. Thompson was born November 28, 1925 in Kite, Johnson County, GA to the late Arthur Thompson and Lucille Lawson Thompson Smith and was educated in the Johnson County School system. Following school he enlisted in the U S Army in July of 1944 in Ft. Pherson, GA. serving during WWII in Italy and Switzerland. He achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class Technical Sergeant Field Lineman and received the Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal and Occupation Ribbon. He was employed by Derst Baking Co for 20 years and from 1966-1986 establishing and operated Thompson Minit Mart, was a member of the Swainsboro First Methodist Church, was a member of C. I. Hall Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Men. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Carlene Fries and Wadie Watson; brothers, Rev. Ed Thompson and Lawson Smith; step father Jerdie Smith; and step-son Jimmy Scott.

Four Sons: Bill Thompson Jr. (Kim) of Richmond Hill, GA, Roy Thompson (Gail) , Keith Thompson (Lynn) all of Swainsboro, GA and Lynn Scott (Margie) of Melbourne, FL.
Six Grandchildren: Shea Thompson (Jessica), Jason Thompson (Jessica), Becky Len Thompson (Tiffany), Drew Thompson (Rene`e), Kal Thompson and Misty Mullis (Brett).
Ten Great-Grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
