Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. Wilbur G. “Sonny” Stephens, Jr., age 77, of Adrian, GA, on Friday, April 13, 2018, at his residence.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 16, 2018, at the Swainsboro First United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne DeFore, Rev. Bill Calhoun, and Rev. David Unkles officiating.
Mr. Stephens will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends on Sunday evening, April 15, 2018, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Sardis Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers are: Harry Martin, Bobby Reeves, Bobby Sasser, Alex Grindler, Tyson Stephens, Steven Rigdon, Gary Curry and Jimmy Ray.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Members of the Swainsboro Exchange Club and Employees of Spivey State Bank.
Mr. Stephens was born on February 18, 1941 in Adrian, Emanuel County , GA to the late W. G. Stephens, Sr. and Reba Grace Spell Stephens. He was Vice President of Spivey State Bank in Swainsboro, and worked there for 45 years; a graduate of the University of Georgia and a member of Adrian Baptist Church. He served in the Georgia National Guard. Sonny was a consistent and devoted public servant, and a great citizen of Emanuel County. He served as Citizen of the Year for the Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce in 2004; Exchangite of the Year for the Exchange Club in 2005; and served on several boards, including Spivey State Bank Board of Directors, Emanuel County Health Board and Library Board. He also served as President of the Exchange Club, American Cancer Society, Emanuel County Arts Council and the Emanuel County Hospital Foundation. His greatest passion was his four grandchildren, Luke, Jacob, Gracie and Olivia; who affectionately called him "Pops".

Four Grandchildren: Luke and Jacob Fagler both of Swainsboro and Gracie and Olivia Hall both of Milledgeville
One Sister: Regis Sammons of Adrian, GA
One Brother: Charles Stephens (Lee) of Longwood, FL
