Verna (Lane) Cannady

Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mrs. Verna Lane Cannady, age 96, of Cannoochee, GA, on Thursday, December 7, 2017.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at 2:30 PM in Canoochee Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Wiggins and Rev. Mark Sweat officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening from 5-7 PM.

Interment will follow in Twin City at the Coleman Cemetery.

Pallbearers are: Roger Dunaway, Johnny Lane, Rusty Lane, James Hall, Steve Johnson, and Adam Lane.

Honorary Escorts will be Deacons of Canoochee Baptist Church and the Cannady Nephews.

Mrs. Cannady was born January 31¸1921 in Canoochee, Emanuel County, GA, to the late John Martin and Gertrude Bennett Lane and retired as a supervisor with Argo Mills. She was a devout and devoted Christian and an active member of the Canoochee Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, was a member of WMU and served in numerous other capacities.  Mrs. Cannady was an avid gardener, worked tirelessly on family genealogy and was a former member of the Governor David Emanuel - Adam Brinson Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. In addition to her parents was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Cannady; six sisters, Lois Patrick, Mozell Smith, Nezzie McNeely, Isabelle Bradham, Vera Dunaway, Johnnie Bennett and two brothers, David Lane and Darriel Lane.

Survivors include:

Two Daughters: Glenda Atkinson of Raleigh, NC and Amanda Cannady of Moxley, GA

Four Grandchildren: Kelly A. Wood (Justin), Emily A. Ziegler (Ted), Kacy Warren (Josh), Kody Ellison.

Five Great-grandchildren: Alex, Austin, Alexis, Cannady, Wells, nieces, nephews and extended family.
