Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mrs. Phyllis Claxton Scarboro, age 67 of Swainsboro, GA on Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Emanuel Medical Center Nursing Home, surrounded by her family and friends, after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at 2:00 pm at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Rev. Andrew Perryman officiating.
Mrs. Scarboro will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
The family will receive friends Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors.
Interment will be in the Swainsboro City Cemetery.
Pallbearers are: Will Claxton, Matt Claxton, Steve Claxton, Dock Claxton, John George Claxton and Wayne Smith.
Mrs. Scarboro was born April 3, 1951, in Swainsboro, GA to the late Willis and Jewel Claxton. She was a 1970 graduate of Swainsboro High School. She married George Arthur Scarboro, Jr. in 1972, who passed away in 1986, leaving her with two children to raise. Being a single parent, Mrs. Scarboro was totally dedicated to her children in all aspects of their lives. Mrs. Scarboro was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where she served as secretary for several years. She was employed with Piggly Wiggly Supermarket for over 20 years and made many close friendships while working there. Most people knew her from working at Spivey State Bank in the operations and bookkeeping department, where she retired after 20 years of service. After Mrs. Scarboro retired, she continued dedicating her life not only to her children but to her grandchildren, which was her pride and joy. She was a unique and caring individual who touched the lives of all who knew her and the best Mother and Mema anyone could ever have. She will truly be missed by all.

Three Grandchildren: Austin Christopher Scarboro, AnnaLayne Carol Scarboro and Samantha Jewel Coleman
One Great-Grandchild: MaryJane Elise Scarboro
Two Brothers: Willis Claxton, Jr. (Diane) of Glennville, GA and Keith Claxton (Kathy) of Summertown, GA
Nieces and Nephews: Krystal C. Smith (Wayne), Amber C. Durrence (Jamey), Matthew K. Claxton, Will Claxton (Bonnie), Joshua K. Claxton (Density)
Great Nieces and Nephews: Mikaley Durrence, Banks Durrence, Levi Smith, Lindsey Smith, Jewel Adelaide Claxton, Kennedy Claxton, Anslie Claxton
