Honorary Pallbearers: Members of AA and Alanon

Mr. Riner was born February 1, 1930 in Broxton, Coffee County, GA to the late Roey Perry and Irene Claxton Riner; and received a degree in banking from LSU.  He served his country as Sgt 1st Class in the US Army from 1948-1951. Mr. Riner was previously employed by the Central Bank and was Owner of Perry’s Auto Auction.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; not perfect by any means, but always tried to do what was right for others. He loved fiercely, and although he was blessed with mostly sons, he was born to be a girls’ papa.  He was a dedicated member and avid supporter of AA, Bridges of Hope and The Halfway House. Mr. Riner was extremely proud of his 44 years of sobriety and dedicated the remainder of his life to helping others achieve their sobriety. Most important was his love for family, living by faith, and accepting and extending grace especially to those often considered castaways by their circumstances. He was a founding and lifelong member of the Swainsboro United Primitive Baptist Church. His faith and love for his God guided him in all his actions and decisions. He gave all the glory to his Holy Precious Savior for the grace extended to him in 1978 that turned his life around and created in him a warrior’s heart for others. January 2021 he received the Emanuel County Hometown Hero Award.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his sons, Johnnie C. McWilliams; granddaughter, Priscilla Riner Hooks; great-granddaughter, Taylor Nicole Hooks; step-son, Shae Hartmeyer; and sister, Joyce Riner Cavanah Crumpton.

Survivors include:
