Myra Mae (Cowart) Downer

Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mrs. Myra Mae Downer, age 92, of Swainsboro, GA, on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at Emanuel Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Swainsboro First United Methodist Church with Rev. Jack Whitehead officiating and Rev. David Unkles to assist.

Interment will follow in the Hawhammock Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 PM on Friday, October 25, 2019

Pallbearers are Bobby Sasser, Billy Sasser, Paul McDaniel, Phil Tatum, Bo Lariscy, Charles Schwabe, Jim Dekle, and J.W. Hooks.

Honorary Escorts are Monday Morning Prayer Group: Cherry Curry, Kay Peacock, Judy McWhorter, Mae Bailey, Mary Rose Brown, Judy Wells, and Kay Stephens.

 Mrs. Downer was born September 28, 1927 in Swainsboro, Emanuel County, GA to the late Dessie Elmo and Myrtice Hudson Cowart. She was retired from Shop Rite Pharmacy. Mrs. Downer was a member of the Flanders Hall Sunday School Class at the Swainsboro First United Methodist Church, UMW Wesleyan Circle, Monday Morning Prayer Group, Friday Coffee Circle and the Pinetree Festival Garden Show. She was also a volunteer at Emanuel Medical Center. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 20 years, Clayton Downer, two sisters, Helen Cowart Whitehead and Irene Cowart Roberts, two Great-Grandchildren, Jed Christopher and Gracie Leigh Pullen.

Survivors Include:

One Daughter: Gloria Hudson (Mickey) of Rincon, GA

Three Sons: James E. “Ezra” Price (Judy) and Ray Downer (Tabatha) both of Swainsboro, GA, and David Price (Helen) of Oak Park, GA

Eight Grandchildren: Christy Scroggs, James Price (Carter), Clay Price (Amanda), Jarrod Downer, Jada Downer, Kristle Wheeler, Mandy Pullen (Chris), and Melissa Clark (Adam Brewer)

Seven Great-Grandchildren: Bella Scroggs, Patton Price, Evie Price, Haley Fulcher, Peyton Taylor, Gage Pullen, and Everly Brewer
