Merlene Hutcheson Obituary

Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mrs. Merlene Canady Hutcheson, age 84, of Adrian, GA, on Monday, July 11, 2022 at Community Hospice in Vidalia, GA.

Graveside services will be Friday, July 15, 2022, at 3:00 PM in the Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Elder J. E. Griffis officiating.

The family will receive friends on Friday, July 15, 2022 at the funeral home from 1:30-2:30 PM.

Pallbearers are Thomas Earl Proctor, Randy Canady, Hal Hutcheson, and Broc Hutcheson.

Mrs. Hutcheson was born October 14, 1937, in Herndon, Jenkins County, GA, to the late John and Ethel Johnson Canady. For many years, she was employed at Delores and Woody’s Shops, in the alterations department and in May of 1995, she opened her own business, Alterations, etc., in downtown Swainsboro.  There she continued to pursue her love of sewing and helping her clients look their best until she retired in 2008. Her greatest love on earth was family. She was a devoted wife to her husband of 61 years, a selfless mother to her children and a loving homemaker for her family.  Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her most precious gifts.  Mrs. Hutcheson was an avid gardener; and loved sharing vegetables and growing tips with her friends and neighbors.  She especially loved tending her roses and sharing bouquets with those needing a smile. Mrs. Hutcheson was a strong woman of faith, loved her God and was a member of Mt. Zion Primitive Baptist Church.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lynward Hutcheson; beloved son, Kevin D. Hutcheson; sister, Ola Mae Jones; and brothers, Ira Canady, Ollie Canady, Marvin Canady and Robbie Canady.

Survivors include:

Daughter: Gail H. Johnson (Jerry) of Swainsboro, GA

Son: Stacy L. Hutcheson (Janet) of Social Circle, GA

Sister: Ann Proctor of Millen, GA.

Brother: Bobby Canady of Garfield, GA.

Grandsons: Grayson T. Johnson (Jamie) of Swainsboro, GA, and Jacob Deaton of Atlanta, GA.

Great-Grandsons: Jamison Dasher Johnson and Granger Kevin Johnson.

Numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and special neighborhood friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. James Ray and staff; all of the caregivers at Emanuel Medical Center, Swainsboro, GA; Cedar Plantation, Metter, GA; and Community Hospice, Vidalia, GA, for the love and support they have shown our family during the past few months.
