Maurice Hubert Nimmons

Maurice Hubert Nimmons, 85 of Swainsboro, GA passed away on Sunday evening, December 2, 2018 at Carl Vinson VA Medical Center, Dublin, GA.He was surrounded by his family and given an Honor Guard Escort as a final farewell tribute.

Born October 13, 1933 in Commerce, GA, he was the son of the late Leroy and Madeline Hanks Nimmons. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Cole Nimmons. He was of the Baptist faith.  He and his wife were baptized together shortly after they were married. 

Maurice served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He participated in Operation Castle in the Marshall Islands while serving aboard the USS Renshaw. He was a master mason with the Statesville Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M No. 27.

He is survived by his son, Maurice H. Nimmons, Jr. of Swainsboro, GA; daughters, Marcie Simmons (Bill) of Swainsboro, GA, Kim Doricchi (Richard) of Jensen Beach, FL and Melanie Cole Powell (David) of Waynesboro, GA; five grandchildren, Cole, Sarah and Hannah Powell, RinoDoricchi (Stefanie) and Shea Walton (Jordan) and also two step grandchildren, Wes Simmons (Haley) and Jessica Collins (Brooks)and one great grandchild, Lillian Walton.

The family will receive friends from 1:30-3:00pm Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson, SC. The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 3:30pm Wednesday with Rev. Dwight Greene and Rev. Harry Osborne officiating. Interment will follow in New Silver Brook Cemetery in Anderson, SC with full military honors.
