Mary Helen (Sammons) Watkins

Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mrs. Mary S. Watkins, age 93, of Albany, GA on Monday, February 25, 2019, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald, GA.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 11:00 AM in the Gumlog Primitive Baptist Church in Kite, GA, with Ross Powell officiating.

Interment will follow in the Gumlog Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

Mrs. Watkins will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers: JB Travis, Zach Watkins, Michael Rambo, Greg Gaston. Steve Harding, Jason Handy, and Bruce Sammons

Mrs. Watkins was born September 11, 1925 in Kite, Johnson County, GA to the late Malvin and Naomi Tapley Sammons.  Being a very active individual she retired from Palmyra Medical Center and Massey Wholesaler, afterward continuing to work at Belk Department Store. Mrs. Watkins was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, GA and was a greeter there for many years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Barney Sammons of Wadley, GA.

Survivors include:

Three Children: Wayne Watkins (Deborah) of Birmingham, AL, Glenda Rambo (Bill)

and Larry Watkins (Connie) all of Albany, GA

Eight Grandchildren: Lori Watkins, Ivy Travis (J. B.), Betsy H. Burch (Steve), Lindsey Hill, Michael Rambo (Rachel), Michelle Speicher (Gregg), Brandi Norman (Tracy) and Zach Watkins (Megan).

12 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
