Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Burke Johnson, age 78, of Swainsboro, GA, on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at the Emanuel Medical Center Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 2:00 PM in the Swainsboro First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Robert Blankenship officiating.

Interment will follow in the Eastbrook Cemetery with Rev. Louis Pearce officiating.

The family will receive friends Saturday, October 2, 2021, from 1-2 PM at the Church.

Pallbearers are Slade Burke, Chad Burke, Allan Johnson, Freddy Gillis, Andy Freeman, and Freddie McVey.

Honorary Escorts will be John D. Scott, Wyatt Rich, and Emanuel County Nursing Home Staff.

Mrs. Johnson was born January 5, 1943 to the late Thomas and Roberta Wilson Burke, in Millen, Jenkins County, GA, was a 1961 graduate of Jenkins County High School and received her business certificate from Bolen-Draughon Business College. She began her career in the Woods Products Industry in 1969 with Allied Timber, through the years also known as St. Regis, Champion and for her last 11 years with Rayonier Wood Products.  Mrs. Johnson wore many hats during her 35 years, doing everything from clerical, purchasing, wood procurement, accounting and in the last few years was supervisor of human resources, environmental, health and safety, before retiring.  She was a faithful member of the Swainsboro First Baptist Church where she served many years as a Sunday School teacher for the children's program,  and enjoyed singing in the adult choir.  In addition to her parents was preceded in death by her husband, William Johnson; and brother, Herbert Burke.

Survivors:

Daughter: Beth Johnson Hendrix (Glenn) of Swainsboro, GA

Son: Chris Johnson (Becky Daniels) of Swainsboro, GA

Grandchildren: Haleigh Johnson (Adam Yancey), Alec Hendrix, and Austin Hendrix.

Great-Grandchildren: Lilly Beneteau, Layla Kate Beneteau.

Nieces, Nephews and Extended Family.
