Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. Martin Luther Bridges, age 89, of Swainsboro, GA, on Monday, May 27, 2019, at his residence.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2019, at 11:00 AM, at Swainsboro First Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Robert Blankenship officiating assisted by Rev. Casey Shaw.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 until 11:00 AM.
Interment will follow in the Swainsboro City Cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers are Dr. Jimmy Ray, Marty Ray, Noot Irvin, Mark Williams, Bryan Rogers, and Phil Torrence.
Honorary Pallbearers: Swainsboro Exchange Club.
Mr. Bridges was born July 21, 1929 in Wesson, Mississippi, to the late William Martin and Sarah Ella Wilson Bridges. He was an Air Force Veteran, serving in the Korean War. He received the UDC Cross of Military Service. He also served in the Army Reserve. Mr. Bridges was a member and Past Master of the Masonic Lodge #244 in Swainsboro; Past Master in Eastman, Lodge #279; and Past Master in Cochran, Lodge #217. He received his fifty year award from The Grand Lodge of Georgia. Mr. Bridges was a 1953 Graduate of Mississippi State with a degree in Agronomy; he was retired from the United States Department of Agriculture as a Soil and Water Conservationist. He was a devoted member of the Swainsboro Exchange Club; a member of the Swainsboro First Baptist Church, where he sang in the Choir. He was an Eagle Scout and an avid gardener. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bridges was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Dr. Jean B. Bridges; three sisters, and two brothers.

One Daughter: Elizabeth Jean "Beth" Bridges McCall (Robert) of Odum, GA
Two Sons: Harold "Hal" Bridges (Charlotte) of Summertown, GA and Robert William "Bob" Bridges of Shellman Bluff, GA.
Five Grandchildren: Joseph Bridges, Jenni Bridges, Gabriel “Gabe” McCall, Carson McCall and Bolen “Bo” McCall.
Three Great-Grandchildren: Carleigh Bridges, Chloe Bridges and Vincent Bridges.
