Lester E. Underwood

Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. Lester E. Underwood, age 69, of Swainsboro, GA on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Augusta University Medical Center.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 15, 2021, at 11:00 AM in Emanuel Christian Ministries with Rev. Larry Jennings and Rev. Curt Grimm officiating.

Interment will follow in the Eastbrook Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 15, 2021, at the church from 10-11 AM.

Pallbearers are Wendell Walden, Buddy Brown, Billy Cavanah, Tim Harrell, Terry Bell, Andy Dixon, Tim Coleman, and Dwayne Ivey.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Cavanah, Joe Underwood, Scott Howard, Jimmy Greenway, William Rogers, Troy Allen, Lincoln Kettles, Tommy Muns and Ronny Boatright.

Mr. Lester was born September 14, 1952, in Swainsboro, Emanuel County, GA to Frank Lester and Earline Turner Underwood and was a graduate of Swainsboro High School. He was previously employed for 20 years with Argo Mills Manufacturing Co. and retired after 20 years of service, from Central Fence, as a sales associate.  After retirement, he worked part time with the Emanuel County Board of Education. An avid outdoorsman to say the least, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking with Lake, his grandson, making wood pallet signs.  He was a collector of knives and guns, although his greatest joy was his family and spending time with them.  Mr. Lester was a member of the Emanuel Christian Ministries and was preceded in death by his father.

Survivors:

Wife of 50 years: Shirley Sweat Underwood of Swainsboro, GA.

Daughters: Jolie Underwood (Josh Tucker) and Julie Underwood  all of Swainsboro, GA.

Mother: Earline Turner Underwood of Swainsboro, GA

Sisters: Donna Weatherford (Ricky) of Twin City, GA and Gail Scarboro of Swainsboro, GA.

Grandson: Lake Bush.

Nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
