John Harris Ellis

Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. John Harris Ellis, age 92 of Swainsboro, GA 30401 on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at his residence.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jim Harrell officiating and Rev. Casey Shaw assisting.

Interment will follow in the Eastbrook Cemetery with Military Honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 10:00 AM till time of service.

Pallbearers are  Bobby Sasser, Al Henry, Stanley Holmes, Johnny McCuen, Bill Simmons, and Gene Ragsdale.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Wyatt & Wanda Youngblood, Terri Leeder, Wyatt Rich and Gene Simmons.

Mr. Ellis was born September 7, 1926 in Abbeville, SC to the late John M.  and Rosa Lee Taylor Ellis.  He was a Merchant Marine during WWII and served from1944-1947 crossing the Atlantic 13 times. After returning from service to his  country, he worked for Shell Oil Co until 1953, was a textile printer in Ware Shoals, SC until 1962 and brought his family to Swainsboro, GA in 1963, working as a textile printer and supervisor  with Swainsboro Print Works for 28 years, later retiring from Automatic Sprinkler in 1991. He was a member of the Swainsboro First Baptist Church for 53 years, a Mason and member of the Woodman of the World, enjoyed hunting , gardening, fishing, working in his yard and being with his family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Harriett Deidra Ellis Bishop.

One Daughter Micki E.  Hall (Donald) of Hoover AL

One Sister: Jean Still of Greenwood, SC

One Brother: Victor Ray Ellis of Maryland

Three Grandchildren: Lauren Deidra Whitlock, BriAnna Taylor Lowrey (Adam), and Victoria Brooklyn Hall

Two Great-Grandchildren: Ava Taylor Lowrey, Ana Kathleen Lowrey, nieces, nephews, and extended family
