John Allmond Obituary

Durden Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. John Samuel Allmond, 85, of Twin City, Georgia. He peacefully entered his eternal home on Sunday, May 19, 2024 surrounded by his family.

Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 4:00 PM at Hebron Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Garfield.

John was born to Sam and Sally Johnson Allmond on October 18,1938 in Emanuel County. After graduating from Emanuel County Institute, he joined the United States Air Force and served a tour of duty abroad in Asia. After four years, he received an honorable discharge and moved to Rome, Georgia where he resided for the next forty years. While in Rome, he was a member of the Second Avenue Methodist Church and the Rome Shrine Club. As a member of the Rome Shrine Club for over twenty years, he served as a chaplain as well as a member of the clown unit where he performed duties as president. In clown competitions in the southeast region of the United States he always received top recognitions for his rendition of “Pla Do” the clown. He found joy entertaining children, but always said that he had more fun than the ones he entertained. With his engaging personality, John interacted with bystanders as he rode his moped in numerous parades.

After retiring from Georgia Power, he returned to Emanuel County in 2002 and has since been a member of Twin City Methodist Church serving on several committees. As an active member of the Twin City Lions Club, he built many long-lasting friendships while helping people in need of eyewear. For many years, he loved to travel the country in his motorhome, including two trips to Alaska and and one to Prince Edward Island, with his loving wife, Janette. At 83, John took a trip of a lifetime to Ireland and Scotland where he fulfilled a desire to see the countryside and castles while engaging with the locals. His family will remember him as a man’s man. He was the type of person who would use his inventive problem-solving skills to repair or build an item rather than buying a new one. Always just a phone call away, John was attentively available to share wisdom and advice when needed by a family member. With his family and especially his grandchildren, he took immense pleasure in the many beach and camping trips to coastal Georgia. During his later years, he spent time watching westerns on TV while savoring ice cream, operating his tractor around the farm, attending ECI football games including two trips to the state championship playoffs in Atlanta, and cherished Wednesday morning breakfasts with his buddies. John is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Faye Allmond, and his son, Danny Allmond.
