Homer S. “Chip” Durden, III was born in Augusta, Georgia. He was the son of Homer S. Durden, Jr. and Marion Little Durden. Chip grew up hunting and fishing and listening to the colorful tales of his Daddy and Bill Rountree.  His interest in the outdoors led him to scouting where he rose to the rank of Eagle.  As an adult he continued his work with scouts and received the Silver Beaver Award. Chip was employed by Dibrell Brothers Tobacco Company of Danville, Virginia and would travel the tobacco markets in Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, and Kentucky. Upon his retirement from the tobacco company, he operated Fast Go Oil & Lube until his health forced him to retire totally. He was a member of the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club and served as Georgia District Governor, Club President, and Lieutenant Governor.  He was also a member of the First Families of Georgia and was proud to tell you that his ancestor arrived in Georgia on the ship with Oglethorpe.  He was a member of Wiregrass Chapter SAR where he served as Secretary / Treasurer and was a past East Region Vice President for the Georgia Society.  He was also a member of National Society Magna Charta Barons and the Georgia Salzburger Society. Chip was a true gentleman and patriot.  He believed in serving his community and helping others.  He adored his wife of almost 47 years and his precious Shih Tzu, Anya.
