Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Homer Sylvester “Chip” Durden, III, age 72, of Swainsboro, GA, on Saturday, September 19, 2020, at Meadows Park Health and Rehabilitation in Vidalia, GA.
Graveside Memorial services will be held at 2:00PM on Monday, September 21, 2020 at Swainsboro City Cemetery with Rev. David Unkles officiating.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery one hour prior to the service.
CDC social distancing guidelines will be observed and masks are encouraged for your safety and others.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club and The Wiregrass Chapter of the Sons of The American Revolution.
Homer S. “Chip” Durden, III was born in Augusta, Georgia. He was the son of Homer S. Durden, Jr. and Marion Little Durden. Chip grew up hunting and fishing and listening to the colorful tales of his Daddy and Bill Rountree. His interest in the outdoors led him to scouting where he rose to the rank of Eagle. As an adult he continued his work with scouts and received the Silver Beaver Award. Chip was employed by Dibrell Brothers Tobacco Company of Danville, Virginia and would travel the tobacco markets in Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, and Kentucky. Upon his retirement from the tobacco company, he operated Fast Go Oil & Lube until his health forced him to retire totally. He was a member of the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club and served as Georgia District Governor, Club President, and Lieutenant Governor. He was also a member of the First Families of Georgia and was proud to tell you that his ancestor arrived in Georgia on the ship with Oglethorpe. He was a member of Wiregrass Chapter SAR where he served as Secretary / Treasurer and was a past East Region Vice President for the Georgia Society. He was also a member of National Society Magna Charta Barons and the Georgia Salzburger Society. Chip was a true gentleman and patriot. He believed in serving his community and helping others. He adored his wife of almost 47 years and his precious Shih Tzu, Anya.
