Elder William Bishop was born in Swainsboro, Emanuel County, GA on June 25, 1932, to the late Earnest and Lucille Turner Bishop. He served his country in the US Army for eleven years, followed by an addition service with the Army National Guard for twenty years of service, of which he was most honored and proud. After returning from service he was employed with the Emanuel County Board of Education for many years, in the Maintenance Department and was a familiar and happy face at all the local county schools. Elder Bishop obeyed God’s call and was ordained in October of 1978, and began his ministry with Smith’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church in Adrian, GA.  He has since served Brooklet Primitive Baptist Church, Lake Chapel Primitive Baptist Church in Patterson, GA and Sharon Primitive Baptist Church in Culloden, GA; where he and his wife, Helen, retired and continued to minister and serve neighbors and friends. Elder Bishop enjoyed singing in the choir and with gospel groups; was an avid wood worker and loved constructing gifts for so many; and tending a spring garden was a labor of love and tremendous enjoyment. Elder Bishop was a member of the Sharon Primitive Baptist Church and, in addition to his parents, was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Helen McBride Bishop.
