Berta (Wells) Tapley

Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of  Mrs.  Berta Wells Tapley, age 94, of Swainsboro, GA on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, GA.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at 2:00 PM in the Swainsboro City Cemetery with Rev. Louis Pearce and Rev. Keith Claxton officiating.

Pallbearers are Andy Tapley, Brent Fleming, James Baker, Larry Boyd, Brody Fleming, James Weight and Caden Tapley.

Honorary Escort is Mr. Raymond Riner.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Mrs. Tapley was born February 23, 1923 in Hinesville, GA  to the late William Otis and Lula Reddish Wells.  She was a charter member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church and her family was her greatest treasure.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Quitman Tapley; two sisters; Dollie Ruth Batchelor and Dorothy Pearl Smith;  two brothers; James Francis Wells and Reuben Wells;  sons-in-law, William Robert  Hall and Raymond E. Steinberg and grandson, William Robert Hall Jr.

Survivors include:

Two Daughters: Susie Tapley Hall of Tybee Island, GA and Brenda Tapley Steinberg of Statesboro, GA

One Son: Michael Quitman Tapley (Bonnie ) of Swainsboro, GA

Five grandchildren: Michael Anthony "Andy" Tapley (Sarah), Tory Steinberg  Baker (James), Stephanie Steinberg Fleming (Brent), Pamela Grace Hall, Angela Hall Weight (James), Nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
