Alberta S. (Sutton) Rountree

Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mrs. Alberta S. Rountree, age 93 of Twin City, GA, on Friday, February 2, 2018, at the Emanuel County Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 6, 2018, in Twin City First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Donnan officiating assisted by Rev. Franklin Sasser.

Interment will follow in the Antioch Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Pallbearers include:  Jimmy Mincey, Stephen Griffen, Wesley Hendley, Nick Kraus, Kenton Landon, and Bill Thompson.

Honorary Escorts are Members of Morgan-Rowland Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Rountree was born July 8, 1924 in Metter, GA to the late Lundy and Mary Lou Moore Sutton.  Lovingly called “Nanny Bert”, she worked at Twin City Manufacturing Co., and was Manager of Emanuel County Institute Lunchroom for over 20 years.  She loved gardening, flower grafting camellias and daylilies.  She was always willing to share with others; was an excellent cook and baker, passing that love on to her children and grandchildren.  Mrs. Rountree was well-known for her homemade quilts and her excellent china painting skills.  She loved her hometown and her E.C.I. school, always attending baseball games when able.  Most of all, she loved her family, church and friends.  She was an  active member of the Twin City United Methodist Church for over sixty years; and a member of the United Methodist Women.  She was happiest working in her flower garden, sitting on the pond dam in her chair catching catfish, and playing cards with the Thursday Night Card Club.  In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rountree was preceded in death by her husbands, Leon Thorne and Hugh V. Rountree, and a sister, Louise Calvert.

Survivors include:

Two Daughters:  Ernestine Collins (Wayne) of Twin City, GA and Sharon Galey (Robert) of Ellabell, GA

Five Grandchildren:  Sonya B. Johnson (Ricky), Richard Boatright (Brandi), Kevin Boatright (Becky), Jessica Bell (Shane) and Heather Oliver (Scott).

Eleven Great-Grandchildren:  Nicole Kristenson (Steven), Brandon Johnson (Beka), Dylan Boatright, Blake Boatright, Jordan Spivey, Taylor Spivey, Brooks Baldwin, Phoebe Pharr, Nick Reynolds, Hannah Reynolds and Abby Reynolds.

Several Step-Grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Twin City United Methodist Church, in Honor of Mrs. Rountree.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the excellent care that Mrs. Rountree received to  both the Staff of Emanuel County Nursing Home and the Staff of Pruitt Health Hospice in Swainsboro.
