Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. Loren Gary II, age 67, of Swainsboro, GA on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA.
 
Memorial services will be Friday, May 13, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Bill Woodson and Sidney B. Shepherd officiating.
 
Interment will be in the Eastbrook Cemetery.
 
The family will receive friends Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6-8 PM.
 
Honorary Pallbearers will be Shepherd, Gary & McWhorter Staff, Emanuel County Bar Association Members, Kendall Gross, Matthew Waters, Eddie and Betty Jean Andrews, Jay Lawson, Harry Martin, Gary and Lois Curry and Wilber Stephens.
 
Mr. Gary was a native of Georgetown, GA, a graduate of Mercer University Law School, member of the Emanuel County and Georgia Bar Associations and became partner with Shepherd, Gary & McWhorter Law Offices in1969. He was also active in the community as a past-member of the Swainsboro Jaycees, Swainsboro Shrine Club, Masonic Lodge #244 and a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; Joe and Celeste Oliver Gary and wife; Shirley Wessinger Gary.
 
Survivors include:
 
Three Sons: Patrick (Ann) Gary of Charlottesville, VA, Mercer (Mary) Gary of Monroe, GA and Michael (Amber) Gary of Statesboro, GA
 
One Sister: Martha Gary of Eufaula, AL
 
Three Brothers: Joe Gary of Atlanta, GA, Gene Gary of Georgetown, GA and Dave Gary of Hinesville, GA.
 
Nine Grandchildren: Mathew Baker, Caleb Gary, Isabelle Gary, Scarlet Gary, Vivienne Gary, Andrew Gary, William Gary, Emily Gary and Britt Gary.

I am sorry to hear about Loren''s death. I have fond memories of Shirley and him in Bowdon. He was always a lot of fun, and I kidded him about having him as my Judge if it became necessary to have one. I wanted him on my side.

I was not very close to Mr. Gary, but knew him through researching records at the Courthouses. He was a very knowledgeable man and helped me on a number of occasions. He will be sorely missed.

I am so sorry for your loss. I got to know Mr. Gary while working with Scott. He had a great sense of humor and such a positive attitude. He will be missed greatly. Love, Mary
