Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of David Harrison Smith, age 65, of Swainsboro, GA, on Friday, November 20, 2020, at Emanuel Medical Center. 

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 3, 2020 at 3:00 PM at Durden~Hudson Funeral Directors, Peebles~Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. Tim Price officiating.

Burial will be in the Kemp Family Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.

CDC social distancing guidelines will be observed and masks will be encouraged for your safety and the health and well being of others.

Pallbearers will be Gary Coleman, Kyle Smith, Jesse Durden, Dane Clements, Roy Henry and Robert Riner.

A Swainsboro native, Harrison was the son of Robert Lee Smith, Sr. and Winfred Louise White Smith. A Swainsboro High School graduate, Harrison went on to become a Sergeant at Emanuel County Probation Detention Center. He retired in 2015. Harrison more than loved woodworking, and it seemed he always had a piece of cedar in his pocket that he was whittling on. He enjoyed hog farming and attending local livestock markets. He ran the restaurant, “Smittys”, at R & R Goat Sale with the assistance of his wife Betty. He enjoyed cooking and was proud of his barbeque.Harrison adored his wife, children and grandchildren. Harrison was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Kathryn Riner and a brother R.L. Smith, Jr.

Survivors Include:

Wife of 43 years, Betty Henry Smith

Sons: David Lee Smith (Tiffany) of Hinesville, GA and Justin Heath Smith of Swainsboro, GA

Sisters: Carolyn Faye(George) Sweat of Goose Creek, SC and Jane Smith of Swainsboro, GA.

Brother: Lonnie (Wanda) Smith of Swainsboro, GA

Grandchildren: Clayton Kendall Mobley, Taylor Elizabeth Smith, Amanda Leigh Smith and Harrison Ferrell Smith.

Numerous Nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Sending sincere sympathy for all the family and especially for you, Betty. I think you know that both of us thought highly of Harrison and enjoyed every minute we ever spent with the two of you. We a so very sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear about Harrison, I've known him for years at the Metter and Swainsboro stock sale and enjoyed talking with him. He will be truly missed. My prayers and thoughts are with you during this time of transition; may God bless and keep you in his loving care.

I grew up with Harrison and got along well with him. He had his ways as do everybody. We lost a good man. I know I will miss him.God Bless Your Family.
