Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. Donald “Don” Meadows, age 66, of Swainsboro, GA, on Friday, August 28, 2020, at Emanuel Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at Wadley Baptist Church on Monday, August 31, 2020 at 3:00 PM with Rev. Gene McCoy officiating.

Interment will be in the Wadley City Cemetery with Military Honors observed.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

CDC social distancing guidelines will be observed and masks are encouraged for your safety and others

Pallbearers will be Ollie Freeman, Chuck McMillen, George Radford, Jr., David Way and Rocky Davis.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Deacons of the Wadley Baptist Church and officers of the Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office.

Mr. Meadows was born December 11, 1953 in Wadley, GA, and was a 1972 graduate of Wadley High School.  It was very important to Don that he was from Scottish, Irish, and Creek Native American Heritage.  He retired after 18 years with the DOT (Department of Transportation).  After retirement, he began his law enforcement career in 1992 while living in Texas, and worked locally with the Emanuel County Sheriff’s Office and other area law enforcement agencies. In his spare time he enjoyed collecting western memorabilia and state cups.  Don was preceded in death by his father and step mother, Massey W. and Zora Price Meadows; his mother, Annie Grace McGowin Powell; siblings,  Pamala Meadows, and Ben Joe Leaptrott and a grandson, Jeremy Blake Meadows.

Survivors Include:

Son: Jeremy Paul Meadows (Carey) of Wadley, GA

Sisters: Gloria Jean Bearce of Belleview, FL, Penny Lindsey of Salina, KS, Dorothy Harris of Ocala, FL and Darlene Rollison of Columbia, SC

Brother: John W. Harris (Nita) of Lometa, TX

Grandchildren: Kimberly Ratchford of Midville, GA, Hailey Lynn Meadows and Nathan Conner Meadows of Wadley, GA

Numerous Nieces, nephews, and extended family
