Mrs. Johnson (often referred to by Meme) was born March 14, 1926 in Garfield, Emanuel County, GA, to the late Ralph and Lillie Bell Kelly Maltby.  She was united in marriage to the late Bernon Johnson on May 1, 1947 in Statesboro, GA.  He preceded her death on May 21, 2007.  They were married for 59 blissful years and had two daughters Glenda Gignilliat and Nancy Johnson.  Ms. Johnson was a wonderful Dietician at Twin View Nursing Home in Twin City.  She was a member of Garfield Baptist Church, Garfield Women’s Community Club, an avid reader and loved to sing, loved cooking, canning and gardening and always had a smile and laughter. Many considered her to be an angel on earth.  Now she is an angel in heaven.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Bernon Johnson, she was preceded in death by her five wonderful and protective brothers, George, Hugh, Thomas, Billy and Curtis Maltby.

Survivors include:

Two proud Daughters and son-in law:  Glenda Gignilliat (Mac) of Sylvania, GA, and Nancy Johnson of Statesboro, GA

Two loving Grandchildren: Scott Gignilliat of Millegeville, GA and Karah G. Simmons with her husband Alex Simmons of Bluffton, SC

Four blessed Great-Grandsons:  Gavin Gignilliat, Cayson Simmons, Cole Simmons and Cooper Simmons.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at 2 P.M. at Garfield Baptist Church with Elder Tommy Rountree officiating.

The family will greet friends to remember and celebrate the life of Jeanette (Meme) Johnson at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Hebron Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

I will forever love and miss my friend, Lean Jean the beauty queen. She was so very special to me. One of the sweetest and most thoughtful people I have ever known. I had the honor during my years working at Browns Health & Rehab. I feel so very blessed to have known her. She was an angel on earth. My thoughts and prayers are with you all, her loving family. Rest In Peace, my dear friend.
