Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. Franklin D. Gillis, age 79 of Metter, GA formerly of Swainsboro, GA on Monday, August 8, 2016 at Augusta University Hospital.

Funeral services will be Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 11:00 in the Swainsboro First Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Leigh officiating.

Interment will follow in the Eastbrook Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, August 10, 2016 from 6-8 PM.

Pallbearers are Donny Wilson, Craig Wilson, Darrell Williams, Fred Wilson Jr. Alex Bailey, Dock Claxton Jr. and Freddy Gillis

Mr.  Gillis was born June 17, 1937 in Reidsville, GA to the late Fred B. and Lurline Kitchens Gillis and was a 1957 ECI graduate.  Retiring in 1979, after 17 years as a Special Agent with the Department of Revenue Alcohol and Tobacco Law Enforcement Division he owned and operated Gillis Investigations for 37 years.  Mr. Gillis was a member of the POA (Police Officers Association) and attended Swainsboro First Baptist Church,  most of all he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He loved gardening and spending time with his family.

Survivors include:

His Wife of 58 years: Johnnie Wilson Gillis

Two Daughters: Debbie G. Bragdon of Swainsboro, GA and Lisa C. Parham (Lanier) of Twin City, GA

One Sister: Joyce Williams (Johnny) of Swainsboro, GA

Two Brothers: Charles Gillis (Kathy) of Swainsboro, GA and Lamon Gillis (Sue) of Millen, GA

Four Grandchildren: Brandi Bartels (Brent), Bronson Bragdon, Colton Bragdon and Kirrin Parham.

Two Great-Grandchildren: Cash Bartels and Brooks Bragdon, nieces, nephews and extended family.
