Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mrs. Rita Stevens Thompson, age 53, of Swainsboro, GA on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at her residence after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at 3:00 PM in the Hillcrest Baptist Church with Dr. Ray Freeman officiating and Rev. Josh Black assisting.

Interment will be in the  Eastbrook Cemetery & Mausoleum

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 6-8 PM.

Pallbearers are Bob Swan, Tommy Battle, Craig Miller, Andy Calhoun, David Brantley, Paul McDaniel, Jeffery Brown and Paul Carroll.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Battle Lumber Co. Family and Employees, Deacons of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Chris Tiller, Craig McNeely, Paul Purvis Marion Shaw and Wayne Rountree.

Mrs. Thompson was a native of Emanuel County, a 1977 graduate of Swainsboro High School, and was employed with Battle Lumber Co. as accounts payable clerk.  She was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church where she served as clerk for numerous years, was active in Sunday School, was  Past Director of WMU and was preceded in death by her father H. S. Stevens.

Survivors include:

Her Husband: Elmer Thompson of Swainsboro, GA

Three Daughters: Whitney Justice of Swainsboro, GA,  Kassie Thompson of Savannah, GA and Mandi Thompson of Canoochee, GA

Her Mother: Lois Stevens of Swainsboro, GA

Three Brothers: Ricky D. Stevens (Kathy) of Hoboken, GA, Mickey L. Stevens (Dawn) of Broxton, GA and Mark E. Stevens (Lynn) of Swainsboro, GA

Three Grandchildren: Jaylee and J.T. Justice and Sadie Holden and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Dear Elmer, Lois and family:

Our hearts were deeply saddened when we learned Rita had passed away.
I will always remember her as a warm, caring individual who could be relied upon to give her best in all situations. She was a competent, reliable employee and we were honored to call her our friend.
Please know that all of you will be held close in our prayers in the coming weeks and trust that God will shelter you in His Love and give you peace.
