Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. Walter M. "Tan" Tanajewski, age 92, of Swainsboro, GA on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at the Community Hospice in Vidalia, GA.

Funeral services will be  Friday, December 21, 2012 at 2:00 PM in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Rev. Bunny Hudson offiating.

Interment will be in the Swainsboro City Cemetery with full military honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 12:00 noon till time of service.

Mr. Tanajewski was born in Jersey City, NJ , served his country as a member of the U S Army during the WWII,  Korean Conflict, and Vietnam, receiving the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal w/3 Awards, American Defense Medal, American Campaign Medal, Europe-African-Middle East-Medal w/2 Stars, Victory Medal WWII, WWII Occupation Medal, National Defense Services Medal, Korean Service Medal, UN Korean Services Medal and US Vietnam Service Medal. He was 3rd Army, 2nd Infantry Division and Combat Infantry, Army Ground Force  E-6 Staff Sergeant. He qualified as expert with Sub Machine Gun and Rifle. After retirement from 20 years with the US Army he was the Manager of the Parks and Recreation Department for the City of Atlanta and retired with 18 years of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Decatur, GA and was preceded in death by his parents: Isadoor Jim and Jenny Marie Tucholski Tanajewski.

Survivors include:

His Wife : Mrs. Helen Upton Tanajewski of Swainsboro, GA

One Step Daughter: Shirley Driggers (James) of Swainsboro, GA

One Adopted Son: George Corbit of New Jersey

One Sister: Grace Maruzewksi of New Jersey

Eight Grandchildren, Four Great-Grandchildren and Three Great-Great-Grandchildren.
