Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Rev.  William Herbert “Bill” Thompson Sr., age 84, of Swainsboro, GA on Thursday, August 11, 2011 at the Emanuel Medical Center after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be Sunday, August 14, 2011 at 3:00 PM in the Dellwood Baptist Church with Rev. Louis Pearce, Rev. Joe Bedgood and Rev. William Thompson Jr. officiating.
Rev. Thompson will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Eastbrook Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening at the funeral home from 6-8 PM.
Pallbearers will be Grandchildren.
Rev. Thompson was a native of Jenkins County, served his country with 28 years of service in the Army, Army Reserves and National Guard. He was a member of the Dellwood Baptist Church where he served as pastor for 34 years, Lake Luck Civic Club and was preceded in death by his parents George B. Sr. and Bessie Weathersby Thompson.
Survivors include:
His Wife of 64 Years: Margaret Thompson of Swainsboro, GA
Two Daughters: Diane (Bob) Turner of Dublin, GA and Lynn (Rob) Wright of Millen, GA
One Son: William (Robin) Thompson Jr. of Leesville, GA
One Sister: Geneva Saxon of Midville, GA
Five Grandchildren and Three Great-Grandchildren

What a wonderful and caring man. Brother Bill will have a special place not only in my heart , my husband''s and my daughter"s. She talks of her "Preacher Bill and Mrs. Maragret."

Mrs. Margaret and family: We were so sorry to hear about Mr. Bill (we knew him as "Willie Herbert") in Millen. Thought so much of him. He is no longer suffering on this earth; but is
enjoying the peace and love of heaven. Maybe he and Daddy are catching up and reminiscing the "good old days" in Millen.
