Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. James M. “Jim” Bennett, age 85 of Swainsboro, GA who died Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Emanuel Medical Center after a brief illness.
 
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Swainsboro First Baptist Church with Rev. Franklin Sasser and Dr. Robert Blankenship officiating.
 
Interment will be in the Twin City City Cemetery.
 
The family will receive friends Friday evening at the funeral home from 5-7 PM.
 
Pallbearers are Johnny Lane, Charles Schwabe, Matt Clarke, Jeff Riner, Alan Marshall Willie Gunn, Tommy Purvis and John Tapley.
 
Honorary Pallbearers will be Members of the Steadfast I Sunday School Class, Rodney & Jean Beckworth and James and Mary Neal.
 
Mr. Bennett was a native of Jenkins County, retired Insurance Agent with Interstate Insurance Co and is currently a member of the Swainsboro First Baptist Church, Steadfast I Sunday School Class, Brotherhood and Happy Rovers. Previously he was a member of Twin City First Baptist Church serving as deacon for more than 50 years and Sunday School Superintendent for over 40 years. Mr. Bennett was also active on the Church Council and Usher Board. He was an avid fisherman and loved the Ogeechee River, particularly Bennett’s Landing the area in which he was born and raised.
 
Mr. Bennett was a charter member of the Twin City Lions Club and a past president, served his nation during WWII with the U S Army in the Pacific Theatre and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his parents: Aaron Ben and Annie Mae Aaron Bennett, First wife Johnnie Lane Bennett and brother; A. B. Bennett Jr. Jim was a kind and gentle man and was loved by everyone who knew him.
 
Survivors Include:
 
His Wife: Janice Bennett of Swainsboro, GA.
 
Two Daughters: Cynthia Hayes (Skip) of Palm Coast, FL and Diane Tanner (Bob) of Hilton Head, SC.
 
One Son: John Bennett of Millen, GA
 
One Sister: Sally Clarke of Millen, GA.
 
One Brother: Louis Bennett of Rincon, GA
 
Four Grandchildren: Kara Pisani (Francis) of New York, Math Bennett (Angela) ,Michelle Bennett all of Twin City, GA and Jennifer Tanner of Richmond, VA.
 
Two Great-Grandchildren: William and Lenience Bennett both of Twin City, GA.
 
Should friends desire memorial contributions may be made to the Swainsboro First Baptist Church, Building Fund, 240 W Main St., Swainsboro, GA.
