Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Tina Lawson Welch, age 88, of Kite, GA on Sunday, February 14, 2010, at the Emanuel Medical Center after a brief illness.
 
Funeral services are Wednesday, February 17th, at 11 AM in the Sardis Primitive Baptist Church with Elder J. Lindy Webb, Jr. and Elder Will Martin officiating.
 
Interment will be in the Sardis Primitive Baptist Cemetery.
 
Mrs. Welch will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.
 
The family will receive friends at Durden-Hudson Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 5 - 8 PM.
 
Pallbearers are nephews: Doyle Kersey, Wayne Kersey, Wessie Flanders, Alfred Riner, Hollis Riner, Ray Thompson, Al Lawson, Sr., Ricky Henry, Jay Lawson, Jim Lawson, Dorsey Flanders, Jr., Don Flanders and Danny Harrison.
 
Mrs. Welch was a native of Emanuel County and retired in 1984 with the US Department of Agriculture after 27 years of service. She was employed by the Emanuel County Extension Office and was involved in all areas of the 4-H Cub activities. She was instrumental in getting the 4-H Club House moved, renovated and named Varner 4-H Center. She also helped establish the Sue Stanford 4-H Kitchen. She was a member of the Emanuel County Farm Bureau, and Swainsboro Farm Bureau where she had held offices. She also held the offices of president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer of the Emanuel County Volunteer Leaders and served as secretary of the 4-H Foundation. In 2000, she was the first woman named Farm Bureau Woman of the Year.
 
She was a charter member of the Emanuel County Pilot Club, member of the Emanuel County Chapter of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and was a member of the Emanuel County Historic Preservation Society. She was named Woman of the Year for Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in 1995; Queen of Hearts for Emanuel County Association in 1996. She had been a member of Sardis Primitive Baptist Church since 1977 and was chairperson for Emanuel County Cancer Society for Sardis Church Community.
 
She was preceded in death by her husband, W. A. “Bill” Welch, parents, A. W. and Rosa Screws Lawson, a grandson, Matthew H. Anders, a son-in-law: Chris Moore and a daughter-in-law, Lee A. Martin. Also preceded in death were sisters; Nona Belle Lamb, Sallie Lee Riner, Lucille Smith, Bertha Riner and Georgia Lawson and brothers; Alton B. Lawson and Carl Lawson.
 
 
Survivors Include:
 
Two Daughters and One Son-In-Law: Bonnie Rose and Talmadge Smith of Kite, GA and Laura W. Moore of Kite, GA
 
Two Sons and One Daughter-In-Law: John L. Martin of Swainsboro, GA and Harry and Deborah Martin of Kite, GA
 
One Sister: Ethlyn Harrison of Kite, GA
 
9 Grandchildren and 11 Great-Grandchildren
