Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mr. Talmadge F. Smith, Sr., age 72, of Kite, GA on Monday, May 14, 2012 at his residence.

 
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM in the Sardis Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Lindy Webb, Jr., and Rev. Burton Dixon officiating.
 
Interment will be in Sardis Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Elder Will Martin officiating.
 
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, at the funeral home from 6-8 PM.
 
Pallbearers are Phil Smith, Robert Dame, Emmitt Shepard, Larry Thomas, Jack Waller, Jr., Trojan Harrison, James (Pee Wee) Wilson and Robert (Jim Bo) Hutcheson.
 
Mr. Smith was born in Bartow, GA, served his country as Sergeant in Ft. Meade, MD during the Berlin Conflict with the National Guard Active Duty from 1961-1962. He retired from United Parcel Service (UPS) after 31 ½ years of service, as a driver in the Dublin area, and later retired again with 12 years of service as security guard with Adrian Housing Co. Mr. Smith was a member of Sardis Primitive Baptist church for 43 years as well as being the oldest deacon and served as song leader. He also attended Kite First Baptist Church for night services. Mr. Smith enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Norristown Hunting Club, the Boggy Possum Hunting Club and was a former member of the Swainsboro Jaycees and Local Teamsters Union #728. He was preceded in death by his parents; Frank and Essie Hall Smith, grandson; Matthew Anders, sisters; Judy Thomas and Lettie Waller and brother; Clifford Smith.

His wife of 49 years: Bonnie Rose Smith of Kite, GA
 
Two Daughters: Martha S. Anders (Harvey) of Kite, GA and Melody S. Waters (Michael) of Brooklet, GA
 
One Son: Talmadge F. “Tee” Smith, Jr. (Stephanie) of Cleveland, GA
 
Two Sisters: Frances Dame of Danville, GA and Mildred Shepard of Louisville, GA
 
Two Brothers: Charles Smith of Keystone Heights, FL and Ernest C. Smith of Louisville, GA
 
Five Grandchildren: Michael Waters, Jr., Mackenzie Waters, Jason Anders (Limayri), Seth Anders and Talmadge F. Smith III.
 
Two Great-Grandchildren: Jason Anders and Sophia Anders
 
Special Sister-In-Law: Laura Moore of Kite, GA
 
Special Niece and Nephew: Christopher Moore, Jr. and Allison Moore both of Kite, GA

Your family has been in our thoughts and prayers these past few days. I know this is a hard time but please know you have so many people praying for you all. Big T was such a kind and giving person. I always enjoyed seeing him when he came to Mattie Lively to help cook hot dogs for the Relay for Life picnic. I will miss him. Heaven really does have a special angel this week. Bonnie and Family, I was saddened to learn about Talmadge. Because of distance I never had the opportunity to know him well but I never saw anything but kindness and goodness in him. I just could not believe it when I heard the news about Talmadge. I know that we never know what life has in store for us, but we can rejoice that he is with the Lord. Talmadge was such a good person and always willing to help with anything. He loved his family and friends dearly. May God give all of you peace and comfort during this time and the days and months ahead. He will be missed so much.

I am very sorry to hear about Talmadge--he was always pleasant and had a big smile. I had a nice chat with him at the bank not too long ago and really enjoyed speaking with him. He is certainly in a better place, a place we can all look forward to. May God be with you and God bless you.

I am so very saddened to hear of the death of Mr. Talmadge. I am sorry I was unable to visit you all with mom and my family but I am very sorry for your loss. Our community has lost two great men right close together and I am sure they are together rejoicing in heaven. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
